PhotoShelter Review: Pricing, Pros, Cons & Features 2022

What is PhotoShelter Chorus?

PhotoShelter Chorus Features | G2

PhotoShelter Chorus (formerly by Third Light) is the digital asset management solution that powers your team’s work-in-progress projects, from the creation of assets to reviewing and sharing them with the world. With its built-in collaboration tools, such as ProjectSync, comments and annotations, PhotoShelter Chorus allows you to manage your file editing and approval process seamlessly and keep everyone on track when sharing feedback. When using the ProjectSync app, assets from your desktop sync to the DAM, and to the desktops of colleagues too instantly. Imagine then working locally in a creative application and hitting save to a local folder. Your edits are not only pushed back to PhotoShelter Chorus but also to all relevant colleagues’ desktops too. This really is powerful, and has many practical applications: – Creative workflow: Syncing and sharing across teams, for work-in-progress projects. It saves time and enables seamless collaboration – Sales activation: Save changes to multi-page documents locally (maybe a PDF for sales or POS material) and the changes are synced and shared securely with sales teams or distributors worldwide – Photographer/Videographer: Shoot files and saves them locally – assets sync up to the DAM then sync down again to your creative team for re-touching (this team could be in a different office or continent)

Pros

  • “Libris is helping my department share our MANY, many assets in an organized an accessible way, saving us time and enabling our internal clients to have the tools they need in minutes.”
  • “My overall experience with Libris has been pleasant and easy. Two things I love in a software.”
  • “I like to hear about my colleagues being delighted to be able to find pictures themselves through the searching button. I love the keywords search button.”
  • “PhotoShelter for Brands is great because our whole team can rely on a robust system to catalog and manage our vast numbers of photo and video assets for usage throughout our organization.”

Cons

  • “We had trouble finding a single source of truth for our content, and now we have a platform where we can organize and streamline which of our franchise locations get access to specific content.”
  • “Buttons move around depending on view making it confusing. Lack of intelligent meta tagging based on previous tags.”
  • “Odd user interface for invited users, seeing different maps seperately. User interface should be the same for back ofice as for front office.”
  • “Sometimes when importing images the system looses the thumbnail.”

What do you like best about PhotoShelter Chorus?

Working across the arts and heritage sector, I’m alway taking photographs and videos of exhibitions, installations, events and interpretation. These are an invaluable record of work done and source of future learning for me and my clients. I was finding that they could easily become disorganised over time, because there are so many! Every exhibition, project and visit to a site produces more and more, and they were in all sorts of different places. Having them in Chorus quickly solved these problems, and now as soon as they are in the system it’s easy to get access to them and organise everything with descriptive text that can be searched as well. Every consultancy project builds on evidence and records from previous engagements, so having detailed records that can be searched in Chorus makes the files come to life so easily when I need them again.

The tools created for the museum sector tend to focus on cataloging objects, rather than on organising images of all the other activity/material which takes place. Unlike a lot of standard cloud storage tools, the way Chorus works means that I can configure it enough to build a really powerful database if I need to. It is really flexible – the way files are described can change from one project to another. It’s great being able to just drag files onto Chorus or use the desktop integration with Project Sync – I don’t even need to be on the internet and know that it will all get transferred as soon as I’m back online, too (perfect for when I’m working on the train!).

What do you dislike about PhotoShelter Chorus?

When I first started to use Chorus, I needed to step back and think about what I was storing and why. It made me think about the different strands of content I have, how I might use them in the future, and who else might access them. This meant it took a bit of time to think things through at the beginning, but it does feel like investing time at the start is well worth it for the long term benefits. The team at Third Light have been incredibly generous with their time to help with this sort of thing, though – their team have gone out of their way to think about my questions. It’s been a really positive experience.
